If you have managed to do the impossible and found some time when the whole family can finally get together, then first of all, well done! Finding a date and time that fits everyone’s schedule is probably the hardest part. Now it’s time to make this family gathering one to remember.
Trying to have an unforgettable family gathering usually means there are people of all ages attending, so you’ll need to plan something for everyone and make sure there is fun for all ages. If your family is enormous, then it might be a good idea to set up a Whatsapp Group or Facebook event. A family gathering is a great way to have lots of fun and laughter while creating lasting memories. So here are just a few tips to help you create those lasting moments:
Take lots of Photos
While everyone is together, you need to make the most of it by making sure you get lots of photos. You could set up an area with a camera where people can go to have their pictures taken with a step an repeat background or set up a fun theme with props.
Another fun and interactive idea is to set challenges for people to make sure they get a photo with certain people or doing certain things. This way, you make sure you get shots of every family member. In doing this, family members get to also visit without forgetting to catch up with everyone. Also, it’s a great idea to bring a tripod so that you can do the all-important group photo that fits everyone in the picture. So, if you don’t do anything else, one of the most important things you can do is take photos.

Play games together
There are loads of games you can play as a family. You could create your own sports day! Better yet, you could make personalized T-shirts for your different teams (if you don’t have a vinyl cutting machine then get one, you’ll love it: www.vinylcuttingmachineguide.com)
If a Sports Day activity doesn’t appeal to you, then what about a scavenger hunt? This can be played in teams and you could either set things up for everyone to find or go and find things that could be useful for your event such as kindling for the fire or litter that can be recycled.
Alternatively or as well, you could play some family trivia games. Just send a questionnaire to all your family members before the gathering so that you can collect information, then you can compile a list of trivia questions to ask during the gathering. Then split everyone into teams, and you can take turns asking each team questions like in traditional trivial pursuit. Include categories such as love and marriage, work-life, sports, art and history, middle names and funny stories.
Don’t Worry! Relax and have a fun
There’s loads of fun to be had with all the family, so make the most of the time you have together. While it can sometimes be overwhelming, and some can find a large gathering nerve-wracking, it can also make lasting memories.
It’s essential to meet with your family when you can and create those bonds for everyone. Even if you decide to do a huge picnic! While it might seem old-school, it can make for a great gathering. Just suggest a park and have everyone bring their own food. It’s an easy way of getting everyone together, but no one feels stressed to clean before & after the family event.

Family gatherings are fun and also painful sometimes. But spending time with family can help with mental stress.

Family gatherings are the best, especially when you get to see your relatives who live far away. Having fun is the most important thing at a family gathering.

Our family has some of our best gatherings when we are playing games. You don’t have time to get caught up in touchy conversations when you are having fun.

We tend to neglect family time, I really miss those game nights of Risk, Monopoly etc. The only night that there was no set bedtime.

Our family is BIG. As in BIG! And most of the time it can be chaotic as in everyone’s getting excited over “groufies” especially, us the young ones. We also try to have a “program” to add more life to the reunions/parties. Thank you for the tips!

This is timely and great tips especially with Thanksgiving coming. Planning a family gathering is overwhelming. I agree with taking lots of photos. You get to share them with people who didn’t make it, serve as souvenirs to those who attended, and memories just in case there won’t be a next time.
